Unreal Tournament 3 Classic map pack released
Classic Map pack for Unreal Tournament 3 has been released, most of the maps have been extensively beta-tested and they are ready for ClanBase competitions.
We are very proud to introduce you all this new map pack. We have been waiting a long time for this. We tested a lot of beta versions of these maps with a specialised team of experienced players.
Unreal Tournament 3 needs more maps, with the lack of activity in the ladders we are well aware of that problem. But we’re not giving up on it and this map pack is a good start. We want to thank Angelus for giving us a these new maps and to reinvigorate the scene.
You will notice that the map pack contains a number of remakes from Unreal Tournament. He didn’t remake any UT2004 maps, because he never played it. His interest goes to these Unreal Tournament maps, they are not new to many of you, but they have been replicated in detail. We hope we can attract more Unreal Tournament players to play Unreal Tournament 3.

Interview
I also interviewed Angelus, so he can share his opinion about UT3 and the maps he just has released.
Interview with

AngelusooLaLa: Hello Angelus`, Thanks a lot for making some time do an interview.
ooLaLa: You have worked closely with ClanBase before, and I bet you have been in my position a number of times, so do you think you could introduce yourself to our readers and maybe tell us a little bit about what you are giving the UT3 community..
Angelus`: Well, for the people who don’t know me, I am Angelus (obviously), started my gaming “career” in ‘99, joined a domination clan (Luckystrike) and from there went to several other clans. After being around in the scene a bit, I decided to try my luck among the cb crew.
Angelus`: And thus I joined the UT crew for the itdm section, I became the mod/ladder and cup sup for that game.
Angelus`: When UT3 was released I got invited by scorp to join that crew as he liked what I have done for UT.
Angelus`: Due to unforseen things I had to leave, but not before I made a few maps some of you have played allready ; broken and sprinta.
Angelus`: After a few months I went back to IRC and ClanBase, and decided to remake both my sprinta and broken, as well as doing 2 more classic maps, all of which will be released in the UT3 Classic Pack.
ooLaLa: As you told me you are working on a bonuspack for UT3. Why did you decide to do it?
Angelus`: The main reason for me to make maps for ut3 was to learn what the engine was capable of. And it’s capable of many things. Another reason was my dissapointment regarding the maplist that came with the game. Just a handfull of maps which I considered not even “fun” most of the time.
ooLaLa: Why did u choose to become a mapmaker ? Any career plans on this ?
Angelus`: Like I said, I became a mapmaker (i prefer the term Concept Artist) to learn, and no I do not have any career plans on this. I will set up a team in the near future which has some ties to my maps.
ooLaLa: Well thank god we have people like you helping us out for that. But what do you think of the future of UT3?
Angelus`: To be honoust, it doesnt have one, it will take the same road that 2k3 did. It was released way ahead of time, it’s not finished, not by a long shot. The future of ut3 will rely on what modmakers and/or mappers come up with, but I doubt it will be a great future
ooLaLa: What would you change about the game, except making new maps/mods ?
Angelus`: If I had the chance to change anything, the login system would be the first to fly out the window. The second thing would be to bring back the ripper, reinstate the limitless TL and add the assault and domination mode, perhaps even kicking vCTF out.
Angelus`: There are plenty of things I can list here, and I don’t want to bore you to death with it
ooLaLa: About the mappack now. We all know CTF-Sprinta-2008 already and BrokenLimits, the 2 maps you released before. I also had the priviledge to see your beta versions of CTF-Duku & CTF-Command. What was your inspiration to make these maps and what you are going to change to the ones released before ?
Angelus`: I loved to play both maps during my UT time, and wanted to see if they would work in ut3, and they did, as for the design of the maps, I based it on old medieval stye, as it looked quite well on duku and broken, for sprinta the obvious tech style was used.
Angelus`: The changes I will make have to with scaling, post fx and spawnpoints, broken is scaled down, sprinta stays as it is with 2 more spawnpoints in the center of the map.
ooLaLa: Are your new maps competitive enough for our ladders/cups in UT3 ?
Angelus`: I think they do, I know sprinta does, as people played that inside the cup before. I consider duku to be a “decider map” as it’s quite fast paced now with the new kicker jumppads.
ooLaLa: Why remakes ? And why Unreal Tournament and not UT2004 ?
Angelus`: People like to play remakes as much as they dislike change (read: new maps) , and about the other part of your question, I don’t give a piss about UT2004, it can sod off for all I care.
ooLaLa: I hope your maps can make the difference in the activity of our current & upcoming ladders/cups. Thanks for this interview, and keep up the good work!
